CODE OF CONDUCT

SAWHA is committed to fostering a respectful, inclusive, and sportsmanlike hockey environment. This Code of Conduct sets clear expectations for all players, coaches, and spectators to uphold fair play, integrity, and respect on and off the ice.

Teams must follow SAWHA’s rules and policies, with Team Representatives accountable for their team’s conduct. Unsportsmanlike behavior, discrimination, or actions that compromise the game’s spirit will not be tolerated. Together, we create a safe, welcoming, and competitive hockey community.

SAWHA Team Code of Conduct

Our team understands and agrees to the following:

1. The Team Representative is authorized to act for all purposes relating to SAWHA activities and events. They will act to ensure that the team strictly complies with all SAWHA, rules and bylaws. The Team Representative shall be held strictly accountable to the SAWHA Board for their conduct and that of their players, coaches and spectators at all times. In particular, they are responsible for preventing disorderly conduct of themselves and their players before and after games or practices, on or off the ice and at any places in or about the rink.

2. Individuals, Teams or Team Supporters whose unsporting behaviour causes the game to be brought into disrepute may cause the team or individual to be suspended from further play, further discipline by the League and they may face expulsion from the League at the discretion of the Discipline Committee. Unsportsmanlike (or unsporting) behaviour occurs when the game is brought into disrepute by unexpected or unprecedented behaviour. It offends the spirit of the game and can be directed against opponents, colleagues, officials, spectators or facility staff.

3. SAWHA’s decision shall be final on the adoption, enforcement, and interpretation of all rules and policies, and all other matters relating to SAWHA activities.

4. SAWHA may use for promotional, advertising, or educational purposes, without notice or compensation to our team, any audio and/or visual recordings of any League activity in which we may appear.

5. All SAWHA members will embody the values of Fair Play (as defined by Hockey Canada), integrity and friendship in hockey, and never condone, encourage, engage in or defend unsportsmanlike conduct.

6. Comments or remarks of an inappropriate nature publicly made, which are detrimental to SAWHA members, teams, volunteers, league or game officials, will not be tolerated and will be subject to disciplinary action.

7. All SAWHA members must read the SAWHA Inclusion Policy, under which all SAWHA members, individual participants, supporters and volunteers must adhere to the policy, maintaining a safe sport environment which is free of discrimination and harassment. All SAWHA participants agree to zero tolerance for discrimination where all individuals, including people representing all races, as well as LGBTQ+, gender diverse and two-spirit are treated respectfully, can contribute fully and have equal opportunity to participate.

We understand the terms above and accept personal responsibility for conducting ourselves accordingly. Failure to abide as deemed by the SAWHA Board will result in possible forfeiture, suspension, and/or expulsion.
